How Much Do Solar Panels Cost?

Saving money is smart. Going solar is a smart investment. Everyone asks about cost, but if your goal is to maximize how much you make from your investment, then the most important questions are “how much money will you save each month on electric bills?” and “how quickly does your solar system pay for itself?”

Solar Panels

To calculate that payback period, you need to account for factors like the quality of your solar system, how much sun reaches your solar panels, whether you lease or own the system, the cost per watt, available tax credits, and quite a few more. Reputable solar providers can calculate those factors to show you how quickly your system will pay for itself in electric bill savings.

But understandably, you want to know how much it will cost to put a solar system on your roof. Below we'll break down cost and some of the other major factors that you should consider.

Estimating how much home solar panels cost in 2022

One of the first questions someone interested in home solar asks is, "How much do solar panels cost?" It’s important to know there is not a one-size-fits-all answer because every home is different, and there are many geographic variables and federal and local tax incentives to consider.

solar panel cost

The easiest thing to do is to contact a professional solar installer. The installer will give you a free evaluation that entails looking at your electricity bill to find out how many kilowatt hours of electricity your household typically uses and evaluating your roof and shading, to determine how many panels you’ll need. That, combined with local solar incentives your community may offer and the federal solar tax credit,* will give you a full picture of how much your home solar system will cost. The good news is that no matter where you live, the cost of solar panels is coming down.

We look at the price per watt when figuring out the cost of your system, but you may find it more useful to think about the price of leasing a solar system separately from the price to own one. That's because with a lease it's important to think about how much you can save for each month of the lease, but when you own the system it's more important to understand how quickly it can pay for itself.

What is the cost of individual solar panels?

Very few people are going to buy just the solar panels themselves, just like few people would buy the components of a car and build their own vehicle. We recommend you use a SunPower-approved installer for your solar system.

solar panels system

Yes, it’s possible to buy a single solar panel for as little as $100, but a solar panel does not operate in isolation. You need a system of hardware and software to generate electricity from the sun, including solar panels, an inverter, mounting hardware, wires and cables., It is also beneficial to have a monitoring system that tracks the production, energy use and savings of your system. And you need to consider the cost of installation and operation.

Once you get an estimate for the cost of your solar system, you should subtract the potential savings on your utility bill over time, including any incentives offered by your local or state governments. Then you’ll have a better understanding of how going solar will impact your finances.

What are the factors that affect solar panels?

The cost of a home solar system can vary, even in the same city, due to a range of factors, including the:

·        Quality of the solar system

·        Household’s energy needs

·        Local weather

·        Available roof space and shadingFinancing options selected (cash, loan, or lease)

To help you understand the price of going solar in your area, we've analyzed Mustafa Solar’s price quotes, as well as quotes gathered by third-party sources for thousands of homeowners across the country.

How do I know how much sun my roof gets?

The more direct sunlight your home receives, the more power the panels can produce. But there’s a little more to it than just sunlight. To see if your house is a good candidate for solar, try out a solar panel suitability checker such as Google's Project Sunroof. Then set up an appointment for a solar consultation with an expert who’ll visit your home to inspect its orientation (solar panels facing south capture more energy), roof angle and tree shading to see if your roof will receive enough sunlight to meet your family's electricity needs. MUSTAFA SOLAR’s solar consultations are free, online or in-person, and you can learn more about your home electricity needs and savings options.

solar panels system

Mustafa solar’s panels are proven to be the most efficient on the market*—not to mentioned unmatched at generating power in low-light situations—but, excessive shading will reduce the amount of power that can be generated.

It's also important to know a Mustafa solar solution has unique, factory-integrated micro inverters in each panel. Meaning, if one panel isn't producing energy because of shade, neighboring panels receiving more sunlight can still generate solar energy for your home.

How Much Energy Does a Solar Panel Produce?

How Much Energy Does a Solar Panel Produce?

How Much Energy Does a Solar Panel Produce?

Homeowners shopping for solar often ask us: How much energy does a solar panel produce?

net metering

It's a good question because it will help you calculate how many solar panels you'll need to power your home. Depending upon its wattage, a single solar panel only makes enough electricity to power a light bulb for a few hours, but when you take a dozen or so high efficiency solar panels, you can power your whole household with clean energy from the sun.

Because solar panels don't work in isolation, it's important to first understand a couple of key concepts: solar panel efficiency and how a photovoltaic (PV) solar system works.

Solar panels capture the sun's photons -- little packets of energy – and turn them into electricity.

To capture as much sunlight as possible you need an efficient solar panel. Mustafa Solar's X22 panel is the most efficient solar panel you can buy for your home. A Mustafa Solar  X22 panel converts 22.8 percent of the sunlight it receives into energy, compared to conventional panels that typically convert 15 percent to 18 percent. This means you can buy fewer Mustafa Solar panels to generate the same amount of power as a conventional solar system with more panels.

What are the most efficient solar panels?

net metering

Remember that the adage, “You get what you pay for,” applies to home solar technology. Not all solar systems are alike. The quality of the technology matters in the long run. The durability, reliability and efficiency of solar panels can vary widely by manufacturer. If you settle for a conventional home solar system that might cost less out-of-pocket, you can expect to see average (or below average) results and less savings over time. Watch these videos about the lifespan of Mustafa Solar’s  solar panels and their durability and reliability.

In short, Mustafa Solar’s panels are the most efficient home solar panels you can buy.* A higher quality panel like Mustafa Solar’s might cost a little more upfront, but you’ll see a higher—and quicker—return on your investment in the long run. Our panels come with a 25-year Complete Confidence warranty and have an expected useful life of 40 years.* And since they’re more efficient than other panels on the market, you’ll need fewer of them on your roof. Our panels produce up to 55% more energy in the same space over 25-years than conventional panels, ultimately saving you more money on your electric bill.

How a Home Solar System Works

Every PV solar panel is made of silicon, the same material used for semiconductors. When photons are collected by those silicon panels, they're turned into direct current (or DC) electricity. That type of electricity is great for powering small gadgets like flashlights and phones. But homes are powered by alternating current, or AC electricity. So solar systems require an inverter to transform the DC electricity into AC to power your house.

solar system

Mustafa Solar panels are not just efficient because they capture more sunlight. They're more efficient because they also have a smarter inverter setup. Let's say you have 24 panels on your roof. A traditional PV solar system strings together all of the energy that's captured from each panel and then sends it down to a central inverter, usually boxes mounted on the side of the house. The wires leading to the inverter usually connect the panels together, kind of like lights on a Christmas tree.

this arrangement can go on the fritz if one small thing goes wrong. For example, if shade from a nearby tree covers two of those 24 panels for an hour a day, the string will underperform. The problems in those two panels could keep the electricity generated from all of the panels from passing through the central inverter. The whole system becomes less efficient because of just two panels.

solar panels

Mustafa Solar came up with an innovative solution to this: the integrated Mustafa Solar Equinox™ system, which launched last year. It's the only home solar system designed and built by one company to work together. The Equinox system has micro inverters underneath each panel. So, each panel works independently instead of passing through one central string inverter. That means if shade hits two panels for a couple of hours, then just those two panels are affected.

Plus, Mustafa Solar panels maintain their energy production much better than conventional panels in partly-shaded conditions. In a conventional solar panel, if a single cell is covered by a leaf or dirt, the panel could see a 33 percent reduction in power output. A Mustafa Solar panel might only see a 6 percent reduction in output.

How Much Energy Does a Solar Panel Produce?

So how much power does a Mustafa Solar panel produce? For a given space on your roof, it produces more than any other panel you can buy. For a typical homeowner, a typical conventional system is much less efficient, you would need between 27 and 47 panels to achieve the same power – which would take up a lot more space on your roof.

Just as important is a solar panel's degradation rate, and Mustafa Solar's is the lowest in the industry. Over its guaranteed 25-year lifespan, a Mustafa Solar panel will provide 60 percent more power than a conventional panel And, while our best in industry Combined Power and Product Warranty is for 25 years, Mustafa Solar's  panels have an expected useful life of 40 years.

How Net Metering Works In Pakistan?

HOW NET METERING WORKS IN PAKISTAN

Net metering Pakistan is an electricity policy for consumers, who own / plan to setup a Renewable Energy facility, which allows them to produce electricity (using solar) for their own use and supply the excess produce to the national grid setting-off units of electricity consumed during off-peak hours or at times when the production from RE facility is not enough to meet the consumer load. The consumer will either pay reduced utility bill or get paid for access energy exported to the grid.
net metering

Mustafa Solar, issued its net-metering regulations that allow the DISCOs in Pakistan to purchase excess units of electricity produced by the consumers, and net them off against the units consumed from the grid. As per these regulations, any customer of the national grid (having three-phase connection) can avail net-metering facility for small-scale (1kW to 1MW) Renewable Energy installations. Renewable Energy is a long-term power solution. The Solar PV Technology gives access to affordable electricity supply during system life. Residential and commercial customers can switch their electricity load to Renewable Energy (RE) and can slash their power bills.

Net Metering Pakistan

Net metering Pakistan supplies substantial financial advantages in regards to power generation, earnings and also investment. You can easily join the process which is simple and handy. The first step is to install a net metering compliant solar system which is not very complex as our team at zero carbon will help you out to sort things out while doing the initial set up.

At the second step you need to prepare an application and here again we help you while doing that too. To apply you need to contact relevant electric company.

The installed system must comply with these rules. The relevant electric company will inspect and will issue the NOC after complete satisfaction. Then you will have to sign the agreement with the electric company. After that generation license

will be allotted and your net meter will be activated. Net meter activation is the last process and after that you can participate to the grid accordingly.

net metering

What is Net Metering in Pakistan?

For Pakistani consumers, who either own or plan to establish a facility for renewable energy, the electricity policy is known as net metering in Pakistan. This electricity policy permits them to create electricity via solar energy, not just for their own consumption, but also to supply the excess electricity into the national grid. This excess electricity is then consumed during hours of low consumption or during times when the RE facility doesn’t produce ample electricity to satisfy the consumer need.

In such cases a consumer will be compensated by one of two options:

Pay a reduced utility bill

Get a payment for the excess energy

How consumers are compensated is determined by the relevant DISCO, as specified in the contract. During September 2015, NEPRA’s net-metering regulations were issued which permit the Pakistani DISCO’s to purchase surplus electricity which the consumers produced, to set it off against the grid’s consumed units.

net metering

According to these regulations every customer of Pakistan’s national grid who has a 3-phase connection can utilize a net-metering facility installation for Renewable Energy on a small scale – 1kW – 1MW. Renewable Energy is a long-standing power solution.

Accessibility to a cost-effective electricity supply is rendered via Solar PV Technology during the lifespan of the system. Both commercial & residential customers can convert to RE (Renewable Energy), slashing their electricity bills.

Net Metering in Pakistan: How to Apply?

Net Metering Application: Every applicant who complies with the DG’s requirements as specified in NEPRA’s regulation, presents his/her application together with the required documents to the applicable DISCO office.

Acknowledgement of the application: The receipt of the application will then be acknowledged by the DISCO, which will notify the applicant if the application is perfectly completed. This will be done within 5 working days after the application is received.

In case an application form is incomplete: If any applicable information is incomplete or you don’t submit required document, the applicant will be informed to provide such information or document to the DISCO within the period of 7 days after being given notice.

Initial Review: After the DISCO receives your application, completed as required, it will conduct a preliminary review, determining if the applicant is qualifying for the interconnection amenity, whilst fulfilling the additional demands.

After studying about net metering in Pakistan you may say, It is a great option to produce your own Renewable Energy in Pakistan, seeing this option against the backdrop of the fact that the country has power blackouts as well as load shedding, due to the fact that it has an enormous 4000MW shortfall of energy.

We advise you to Google all the other information you will need on the Internet to make an informed decision about becoming a Distributed Generator.

Net metering in Pakistan: What is it?

Through net metering DISCOs (Distribution Companies) permits their customers to install an RE (Renewable Energy) facility, onsite. This amenity/facility may not be below 1KW (kilowatts), whilst not surpassing 1 MW (megawatts) in its capacity.

In this way they are able to create energy for sustaining themselves. At the ending of every billing cycle, the Distributing Company will be netting off the kWh which the DG supplied at off-peak, against the supplied kWh by the DG.

Is net metering in Pakistan already available?

NEPHRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) of Pakistan, adopted the regulation of the Generation; Transmission & Distribution of the Electric Power Act – Act 1997 section 7(1) on 1 September 2015 which approves the Rules and Regulations which enables the Net Metering Program for RE (Renewable Energy).

Which kinds of power generating amenities are acceptable for net metering?

Renewable Energy facilities like wind & solar energy systems, not surpassing 1MW in generating power capacity, which is efficient to install inside the premises of the customer, are allowed to partake in Pakistan’s program of net metering.

Net metering in Pakistan: how it works

net metering

How will the import & export of energy work on my DISCO meter?

One bi-directional meter will be installed by the Distribution Company with the ability to import & export power. However, the Distribution Company (DISCO) can go for installing two meters which are unidirectional.

One meter will be metering the energy you purchase from your district’s DISCO, whilst the other one will be metering the energy you will be exporting to the DISCO.

Who will receive the power which I will export through my meter?

In general customers living nearby will receive your exported solar electricity.

What advantages will I receive if I opt for net metering?

By producing energy to sustain your own needs, you will decrease the quantity of power you will have to purchase from your district’s DISCO.

The tariff of the savings on self-produced electricity for your own need, is similar to the retail (off-peak) of the DISCO’s tariff, which consists of transmission, charges for generation, distribution, system loss, taxes, subsidies as well as other charges.

You can also receive credit on your power bill of the following billing cycle on all surplus electricity which is exported to the Distribution Company, equal to the Distribution Company’s blended generation price, but will exclude other generation adaptations.

 What Is Net Metering

net metering

Net Metering

Net metering allows residential and commercial customers who generate their own electricity from solar power to sell the electricity they aren't using back into the grid. Many states have passed net metering laws. In other states, utilities may offer net metering programs voluntarily or as a result of regulatory decisions. Differences between state legislation, regulatory decisions and implementation policies mean that the mechanism for compensating solar customers varies widely across the country.

What happens when solar panels generate more electricity than you need during the day?

The answer is, YOU CAN SELL IT. As Mustafa Solar is a certified solar company by Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) for net metering, our systems can SELL the excessive energy back to the grid.

What Is Net Metering?

Net metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for the electricity they add to the grid. For example, if a residential customer has a PV system on their roof, it may generate more electricity than the home uses during daylight hours. If the home is net-metered, the electricity meter will run backwards to provide a credit against what electricity is consumed at night or other periods when the home's electricity use exceeds the system's output. Customers are only billed for their "net" energy use. On average, only 20-40% of a solar energy system’s output ever goes into the grid, and this exported solar electricity serves nearby customers’ loads.

net metering

How Does Net Metering Work?

When you have a rooftop solar system, it can often generate more electricity than you consume during daylight hours.

With net metering, the homeowner is only billed for the "net" energy used each month, that is, the difference between the energy produced by the solar power system and the energy consumed by the house over the monthly billing period.

When your house or business is net-metered, you'll see the meter run backwards, and that means, depending upon local policies, you may get a credit to hedge against the electricity you use from the grid when it's not sunny or at nighttime. You are then billed only for your "net" energy use. The excess energy generated gets put back to the grid for your neighbors to use. (Read about net metering for businesses on the Sun Power Business Feed.)

The Benefits of Net Metering

Net metering can save homeowners hundreds of dollars on their utility bills every year, so it's a good reason to make the money-saving choice and go solar sooner rather than later.

There's another benefit from net metering. Since your solar system is generating electricity near the point where it will be used, this reduces strain on the grid's distribution and transmission infrastructure and minimizes energy loss from sending voltage many miles from the nearest power plant. While some claim that net metering represents an unfair burden on non-solar electricity customers, many net metering cost-benefit studies have found the opposite to be true.

net metering

Giving Customers Control over Their Electricity Bills

Net metering allows utility customers to generate their own electricity cleanly and efficiently. During the day, most solar customers produce more electricity than they consume; net metering allows them to export that power to the grid and reduce their future electric bills.

Creating Jobs & Encouraging Private Investment

Net metering provides substantial economic benefits in terms of jobs, income and investment. Net metering increases demand for solar energy, which in turn creates jobs for the installers, electricians, and manufacturers who work in the solar supply chain. Today, the solar industry employs more than 230,000 American workers in large part due to strong state net metering policies which have allowed the solar industry to thrive.

Protecting the Electric Grid

Unfortunately, some utilities perceive net metering policies as lost revenue opportunities. In fact, net metering policies create a smoother demand curve for electricity and allow utilities to better manage their peak electricity loads. By encouraging generation near the point of consumption, net metering also reduces the strain on distribution systems and prevents losses in long-distance electricity transmission and distribution. There are a wide variety of cost-benefit studies around the country that demonstrate the value solar provides to local economies and the electricity system as a whole.

Net Metering Cost in Pakistan

The net metering cost in Pakistan varies for users depending upon the type and size of the system. The price for industrial customers is higher than the price for residential customers because of the difference in the size of the projects. For residential customers, the net metering price in Pakistan depends upon two factors. The price of the meter remains the same however, the price varies depending upon the documentation and process charges which are dependent upon the project size. Premier Energy helps you apply for net metering with ease and helps you get reasonable net metering rates in Pakistan.

Installation of Solar System.

The first and the foremost step is to get your Net metering compliant solar system installed. Mustafa Solar’s successfully caters to all three sectors of domestic, commercial, and industrial clients. We excel in the provision of the small-scale domestic system as 1kva to multi-megawatts industrial systems.

Advantages of Reverse Metering in Pakistan

Net Metering Cost in Pakistan

Free energy produced from solar panels sounds good but saving and earning through these panels is even better.

Own Electricity and Control Billing:

Net metering not only enables you to produce electricity but also provides control over the billing process. It will regulate your billing and ensure the smart and most efficient use of solar PV panels installed at your place.

Easy on the Wallet:

For both residential and commercial use, net metering has a reasonable cost which is easy on your wallet. Considering its long-term benefits, net metering is a choice of smart solar users. Whenever you are going to select a solar system for home or office, net metering compliance must be in your mind.

Best Utilization of 20% to 40% Output:

Through a net-metered compliant solar system, almost 20% to 40% power output goes to the grid. If there is no net metering, this much amount of energy can be lost without any productive use. That is why net metering is recommended to the solar system owners for bringing more ease to their lives. Such a high ratio will earn more units from the national grid to be balanced in your consumer bill.

Sell & Earn:
Net-metering is a mechanism that allows you to supply the excess electricity to the national grid and sell it. None of the surplus energy you’re producing will go to waste if you have a net meter integrated into your solar panel system.

Burden Off The Grid:
By empowering era close to the point of utilization, Net Metering likewise diminishes the strain on distribution frameworks and averts power losses in long-distance transmission and division of Power.

What is net metering and how does it work?

What is net metering and how does it work?

What is net metering and how does it work?

What is Net Metering?

solar net metering systems

Net metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for the electricity they add to the grid. For example, if you have our PV system on the home’s rooftop, it may generate more electricity than your household requirement during daylight hours. If the home is net-metered, the bi-directional electricity meter will measure the energy that goes into the grid, the sold units will get credited against off-peak units in consumer bill. Customers are only billed for their “net” energy use. On average, about 20-40% of a solar energy system’s output goes into the grid.

How does net metering work?

sun power

Say you install a net metered solar panel system. When your solar panels are producing more electricity than you are using at any point during the day, the electricity is sent back to the grid, running your electric meter in reverse. When you use more electricity than your solar panels are producing, either at night or on cloudy days, you pull electricity back from the grid, running your meter forwards. At the end of the month or year, you are billed the net amount of what you put onto the grid and what you took off the grid: hence “net metering”.

sun power

With a correctly sized solar energy system, you can produce enough electricity to match your home’s electricity use for the entire year. However, the amount of electricity your solar panels produce will vary throughout the year: more in sunnier summer months, and less when the sun is lower in the sky and sets earlier in the winter. Net metering helps you to account for these seasonal differences in solar production by crediting you for the excess electricity your panels produce so that you can use it at a later date.

How do electricity bills work with net metering?

In general, most homes will produce excess electricity in the summer months and will use more electricity from the grid in the winter. Because these variations in production are fairly predictable, your utility won’t send you a monthly check when you produce more than you need. Instead, you will build up extra credits during the summer months so that you can draw from them at night and during the winter months when you need them. With the right design, your system can generate enough power to match your total electricity use for a year, even if you produce much more than you need in some months and much less in others.

solar energy

When your solar power system generates more electricity than you use over the course of a month, you will receive a credit based on the net number of kilowatt-hours you gave back to the grid. If you produce less electricity than you use in a given month, you must buy electricity from your utility to make up the difference. In these instances, you would pay for the electricity you use, minus any excess electricity your solar panels generated.

Use net metering to save by going solar

Net metering is the best solar policy, since it allows you to store every unit of energy you produce with solar to be used at a later date from the grid. In fact, thanks to net metering, you can save tens of thousands of dollars over the lifetime of their solar panel system by offsetting your need for electricity from the grid.

While net metering is not the only way that utilities compensate homeowners for going solar, it is by far the most common and effective solar policy. Keep reading to see if your state offers net metering, and be sure to check out the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE®), which tracks net metering and other policies.

NEPRA Net Metering Rules and electricity rate in Pakistan

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority recently presented their Net Metering facility with alternate energy development board aedb approving certain vendors only after these fulfilled stipulated criteria. Conservation is the lowest cost alternative (net solar) to high utility bills. If everyone reduced their consumption by 20 percent, there would be 20 percent more money staying in your pocket. The cheapest kilowatt is the one you don’t have to go out and purchase.

Net metering rates in Pakistan

Likewise, it could be equally vocal to get your free energy and be able to sell the excess back at a very lucrative rate. National Electric Power Regulatory Authority recently presented their “net metering” program to the public of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore. This net metering plan credits customers for the electricity they produce in excess of the electricity they are consuming after every three months.

Compare this net metering plan to paying a monthly utility bill and getting no return on investment. Net metering is a billing arrangement by which a net meter (Bi-directional meter) is installed at any Grid-Tied Renewable Energy system (Solar and wind power system) which import electricity when production from the solar system is less than demand and it exports electricity when electricity production through the solar system is more than the demand and at the end of the month the Utility company sends the monthly bill of the net meter and this gives a saving to a consumer who sells their excess electricity and benefit to Utility of having solar electricity for other consumers to use when Renewable system exports electricity.

This is especially useful because a home energy system typically doesn’t produce its energy at convenient times. A solar system, for example, has maximum production capacity during the daylight hours, but most energy use happens at night. That’s when artificial lighting is needed. It’s also when people are usually at home. In the winter months, it’s the time of the greatest energy cost for heating the home. With an on-grid system using net metering, the system can “sell” energy to the utility during times of high production and low use, for a credit that can be used to “buy” energy back from the utility during the times of low production and high use.

Remember electricity unit rate in Pakistan 2019 has inflated by more than 5% than the preceding year this typically highlights the positive economic effect of Net Metering with solar energy. While keeping in view the grid parity since the electricity rate in Pakistan has never remained constant, a net metering system feeds power from the home production system into the grid, which the utility can sell to other customers. During times when the home is producing energy (usually from a solar or wind power system), and more energy is being fed into the grid than taken from it, the utility’s accounting system “pays” the customer for this energy in the form of a credit that can be used to buy energy from the utility.

During times when more energy is being drawn from the grid than added to it, the credit is reduced to pay for the energy consumed. At the end of the month, if more energy has been consumed than produced by the customer, the utility charges the customer for the difference. If more energy has been produced than consumed, the utility pays the customer for the difference using an energy meter – usually at a much lower rate.

The average differential rate for electricity applied is averaged @ Rs. 18.64 per unit for Residential buying, @ Rs. 22.2 for Commercial buying and @ Rs. 11.3 for Industrial buying as per incentivized net metering policy and Wapda unit price in Pakistan. Kindly note that net meter reading is performed on compliant equipment only and thereby it is discouraged to use Gas Generators or Diesel Power Generators to be attached for this purpose. Hence, do not buy anything that sells cheap in the market. It shall go waste.

Why Net Metering Pakistan?

net metering

Net metering in Pakistan
is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system proprietors for the power they add to the grid. For instance, if a private client has a PV framework, it might create more power than the home uses amid sunlight hours. If the house is net-metered, the power meter will run in reverse to give a credit against what power is used around evening time or different periods where the home’s power utilize surpasses the system’s yield. Clients are only charged for their “net” energy utility. The advanced digital meter keeps running in both bearings to accommodate power generated at the customer’s home. Net metering permits clients to produce their power effectively and efficiently.

A bi-directional electricity meter is integrated with the hybrid or on-grid solar panels for net metering. These Solar Panels must be attached with a three-phase electricity connection to inject and offset the excessive energy to the national grid. You get credits against the amount of energy you sell to the grid. You can use the credits to get free electricity units.

What is net metering and how does it work?

solar net metering
Net metering is an electric billing tool that uses the electric grid to store excess energy produced by your solar panel system. Under net metering, energy your solar panels produce and you don’t use is credited back to you. On a cloudy or rainy day when your panels aren’t producing enough energy, the utility grid will feed your home energy, and count that energy against the credits you’ve banked over time. As a solar customer, you will only be billed for your “net” energy usage. Also known as net energy metering or NEM, net metering is the solar industry’s foundational policy.

How does net metering work?

Say you install a net metered solar panel system. When your solar panels are producing more electricity than you are using at any point during the day, the electricity is sent back to the grid, running your electric meter in reverse. When you use more electricity than your solar panels are producing, either at night or on cloudy days, you pull electricity back from the grid, running your meter forwards. At the end of the month or year, you are billed the net amount of what you put onto the grid and what you took off the grid: hence “net metering”.

Net Metering in Pakistan

The net metering system in Pakistan is relatively a new concept which is highly beneficial for solar system owners. As the country is blessed with ample sunlight, solar panels generate more electricity in the day than our need, this excessive energy will be of no use if a net metering compliant solar system has not been installed on your rooftop. But if you have the said facility, you can sell this additional amount of electricity to the grid and can earn electricity units in the monthly bill. Net metering is a new yet legal practice in the country as NEPRA had issued regulations about it a few years back. Whether you are a domestic or commercial consumer, net metering will be equally advantageous.

The following guidelines explain the trends in state and utility net metering measures:

Installation of Solar System:

The first and the foremost step is to get your Premier Energy Net metering compliant solar system installed. Premier Group successfully caters to all three sectors of domestic, commercial, and industrial clients. We excel in the provision of the small-scale domestic system as 1kva to multi-megawatts industrial systems.

Preparation of Application:

The second step begins with the preparation of application as per the rules of SRO 892 (1) 2015. This process is made easier and smooth for our valued clients by supporting them on each & every step of application preparation for a solar net metering system in Pakistan.

Inspection & NOC issuance:

The approval of the application will lead to the phase of inspection carried out by the Energy Department. The electrical inspection team will inspect the system as per SRO 892(1)/2015 & SOP from LESCO. After the satisfactory inspection of the system, you’ll be issued NOC.

Signing of Agreement:

This significant step will be the signing of a three years agreement between the Distributor Generator (Consumer) and LESCO. This will be a legal agreement allowing you to feed surplus energy to the national grid.

Allotment of Generation License:

The agreement signed between you and LESCO will be handed over to NEPRA for a generation License. Once the legal agreement is verified by the ruling body, it will allow you to be an independent power producer for the next three years.

Activation of Net Mete:

The last but not the least step involves LESCO in making you the independent power-producing authority. After the successful allotment of the generation license, your net meter will be activated making you able to save & earn simultaneously.

Cost of Net Metering System In Pakistan

Net Metering Pakistan

The net metering cost in Pakistan varies for users depending upon the type and size of the system. The price for industrial customers is higher than the price for residential customers because of the difference in the size of the projects. For residential customers, the net metering price in Pakistan depends upon two factors. The price of the meter remains the same however, the price varies depending upon the documentation and process charges which are dependent upon the project size. Premier Energy helps you apply for net metering with ease and helps you get reasonable net metering rates in Pakistan.
